Twenty-six years is a snap.
Half of my life is a snap.
Snap! Snap! Say it quickly.
Years flash by just like that.
Now, half of my life I’ve been married,
The other half, where did it go?
I remember it all like yesterday.
Yet, it’s half my lifetime ago.
The last twenty-six is a blur,
Made of loving and children and hope,
But, it’s flown by so quickly without me.
It’s recorded mostly in note.
More than half of my life is gone
In a snap, two times twenty-six years.
If the rest is as speedy as that was
I’ll be reflecting only with tears
For all of the times that I wasted
All the occasions I lost in despair.
For my failures, regrets and confusions.
All the times when I was not fully there.
The rest of my life is before me,
All of those days lie ahead.
If God grants me more time to live them,
I’ll count the minutes and hours instead.

You;ll live to 101 for sure! WI
Well, here’s hoping. I’ve promised my kids that their dad and I are going to live to be incontinent and pish all over their sofas! Revenge!x
My son already tells me he will be stuck changing my diapers…lol; visiting mom Friday is a rude awakening for him though:(
He’ll cope. It’s hard for you both. Hugs to your mum.x
Smiled at the ending. Love the message and the way you expressed it. 🙂
Thanks. I’m trying to slow down time but it’s fast and I don’t run so well. I figure if I look at it more, I’ll maybe catch it!x
Wow! You have expressed this feeling in such a beautiful way. I am sure so many women would be able to relate to it. It’s annoying sometimes when moments of reflection lead you to a passage full of regrets made with ‘I should have …’!
‘No more should haves’. I think I’ll adopt that for a motto. :)x
This was written with great detail to time. I loved the last two lines. I can relate to this poem. 🙂
It all flies by too quickly. Thanks for your comments.x
You’re always welcome.
I don’t normally read poems but this poem sure captivates me. Very gracefully expressed. my WP friend. 🙂
