A Jungled Scream

19 (1)

Forests scream in agony.

Roots cry into the earth.

Quivering limbs,

Deathly throes,

Before it grows.

This burning flame

Of man’s

By greed.

This jungled world,

Power sets on fire.

With thanks to Mark’s Gallery for these pictures he posted, depicting bush fires currently rampant in Australia. He kindly obliged with photos of Fire after I had joked that I was going to write poems working my way through all the elements, having done some on Air and Water. These pictures, although of actual events, elicited in me an entirely different sort of response. My apologies if some of them are depressing! But some of them are loving and sensual. So a good balance I would say, eh?

  1. Yes, that is intense. Most of the fires are lit by carelessness, stupidity or deliberate. They need to be chained in front of the fire for a while, let them understand their actions.

    1. I didn’t know that. Obviously accidents do happen but I sort of presumed that the heat was so intense and the growth so dry that it was spontaneous almost like a magnifying glass effect.
Imagine anyone starting them. beggars belief..x

      1. Most people are careful because they realise the conditions but some are idiots. Rumour is doing the rounds that one of the big fires was lit by a government explosive training exercise. How’s that for brain dead in the conditions that were about. Nature still does her thing and the few still get lit by lightening strikes.

      2. If that is more than a rumour it beggars belief although Jen was saying preventative measures to minimise risk were also not taken. Governments, eh?
It does just go to show the chaos of any element out of control.x

      3. Yes. And just to top it off, the weather for today and tomorrow are going to get very hot so this may get very nasty. Time to put it out there for a couple of big thunderstorms I think 🙂
