But it helps……
Starts off slow like the history of life and reaches crescendos of beauty that only music can encapture. This is Mark Knopfler. At one of his best. This is Scotland.
These are places I have been. This is where the heart of Scotland lies. This is where we come from when we say,’ Scotland’. This is the magic that exists for me and so many others when we say the very word that describes where we’re from and why there is that feeling that engulfs us all when we think of ‘home’.
His music is a metaphor for magic.
This is where I climb hills and Munroes. Where I avoid the depths of lochs that may contain monsters. Where the scenery is rugged and wild because that is how the weather is and forms the character of those who live here. This is why we survive against the odds that threaten to overwhelm. We know the tough times. That mountainous beauty with greenery is why we survive. That whatever life throws in terms of constant depression we lift our eyes to the mountains. We hear the song. And we sing.
We all do.
In every part of the world there are people who feel what I feel when I think of ‘home’.
A huge difference. But no difference.
Local heroes all.
Last of the whiskey induced, Jen. 🙂 Promise.
Oh my gosh, so beautiful both your thoughts and the video. I loved Scotland before I even set foot on it last summer. I fell in love with it long ago from stories I’d read and scenes of it in movies. I would come live there in a heartbeat if I could. Thanks for treating me with this. Hugs, Natalie 🙂

You’d be more than welcome, Natalie. Don’t know how you’ like the weather right enough. 😉 Pouring down outside as I type. Sorta typical. But it makes for glorious scenery. 🙂 Hugs.x

I actually love the rain and miss it terribly when we go for such long stretches without it as we have for years now. And I’ve been reading that this drought is NOT over. I pray you’ve have had a good and blessed Sabbath. Hugs, Natalie 🙂

You’re right. there’s always another perspective. We just get so much of it it’s hard to imagine anyone missing it. swap you some sunshine for a shower of rain. 😉 If only, eh? I had a lovely Sunday and a restful weekend. Hope you did too, Natalie. x

Wow! That is beautiful country mommus. How can you not call it ‘home’. Incredible countryside and it oozes history. In your forebears love that was poured into their struggles to survive and be a part of that beauty. You can feel its heart all around. Along with the music it nearly brought me to tears. A heartfelt thank you for a lovely share. Namaste

It still blows me away, Mark. There is so much history and beauty in it all as you say. Might be getting all ‘independent’ here. Lol. 🙂 I suppose we all love our homeland no matter the drawbacks at times. Glad you enjoyed the video. Just as well no one was depending on me for the pics. My feeble efforts to capture all that would have ruined the whole thing. Namaste, Mark. Hope you have recovered from a glut of ice cream. 🙂 x

I usually put them all onto my I-Pod then it’s easy. Except for LP’s. Good grief they still sound good on the record player! A bit scratchy in places but it lends a certain something to the experience. 😉 x

Oh record players – they are coming back again over here..what comes around…like a record…ok lame. I need to get an IPod, writing needs music! 😉 x

I bought one a number of years ago so’s I could listen to all the old LP’s. This one can even link to your computer but I haven’t figured that out yet. When i do I should be able to upload old stuff onto the computer then onto I-Pod. But that all sounds a bit like too much hard work. A brain bursting experience. 😉 x

It’s this bloody memory thingy. And yet I can remember full conversations and where everyone was sitting while they spoke. Just not where I put things. Too many corners to hide things in here. Must have a clear out. 😦 x

One of my talents is prevaricating. So that won’t be happening any time soon. No. I’m lying. I got a lovely new office out of a recent room change. Big. And full of all my crap. Every bit of paperwork has been deposited here. School work, writing, folders of, most likely, garbage, household mince. You name it. It’s all ‘filed’ at the moment. But I will have to purge. I keep too much of paperwork. Always think I’m going to need it. Sure as fate I’ll toss it and need it the following week. But I’m going for it. Maybe next weekend. 😉 x

It is a place that takes your breath away. Every time I visit these wonderful places I’m struck all over again by how majestic it all is. I suppose that’s why we have the weather we do. And still stunning to see in any weather. In fact, sometimes more beautiful in the rain and clouds. Very moody and awe-inspiring. You’re a bit nearer to all of this than me, aren’t you? Lucky man. 🙂 x
