Black And White

Clothed in bridal white, adorned,

Into misted woods,

Centred in the circular,

Vacantly she stood,

Awaiting fate, whatever hailed, thru

Wraith apparelled filter’d trees,

Wisps, through leaves, on silenced wings

Descend, she falls to knees,

Begs inside, a heartfelt prayer,

Though motionless her lips,

Redemption sought for all she’d wrought,

But terror tightly grips

Around and in and through her soul,

Stanching earthly breath,

Widened eyes and strangled moan

Survey an early death.

Dry her eyes, her mouth, her tongue

Cleaves inside, no sound

Could plea for mercy to this fate,

No soul for miles around.

Swoons to floor, soft carpet there

Of verdant life in form

Surrounded oval, toadstools share

Protection from all harm.

Returned to life, spectres depart,

Arrested in the glade,

Fey to foe, white magic saves

Hand of elven maid

Betrothed, from birth, to only one,

Composites compounded,

Separated by the vanquished

Now confused, confounded.

Dream walker sleeps from long ago

Wanders where she’s led,

Awakes unto her destiny,

Intended faerie bed.

If, in dreams, a voice calls forth,

Distresses nightly prayer,

Remember magic of the night,

There’s black and white to spare.

May Music, Day 10 – Star Ships and Fairy Ships

With more than a passing nod to Twindaddy here and his love of all things Star Wars but question 10 had me flummoxed. My favourite song by my favourite band is also in my favourite film which is tomorrow’s question. If I’d had a little foresight I might have managed this more easily but, as it was, today my poetry attempt began to sound like a riddle. So I thought, what the heck.

Of course, favourites I have

but hard to filter through, it is,

gargantuan hits and vocal feats.

What to do, this lass?

Declaring one today, revealing,

it would be, of song and film,

group as well, three out of three

favourites, one charm.

But worry not, muses self,

tho’ questions mingle answers.

Some foresight in wanderings?

No, much too much the chancer.

Seat of pants and later fret

spring readily to mind

so favourite, not, but current, yes,

oh Yoda! help me find

the one, today the sight

that’s not the one,

tomorrow, that way, must light.

So Annie Lennox it is,

Cruising into the west.

Feckin’ fabulous she is!

So too the movie but still not my best.

Fey Tale

Ennobled rank

by virtue of affliction,

Self-condemnation masks

the pooling tears.

His challenge cup

once poisoned by a dragon,

Tormented by its torching;

burning sears.

Intrinsic to his quest

there lives a code,

No law may break his bones;

his strength engendered.

On steed of worth,

his face full-painted woad,

Armoured heart encrusted;

gems to render.

Immortal risk too far

he dare not try,

Though wounds of flesh

may bleed until the end.

Scarred soul he saves,

 thus he will not lie;

This, his one and truest,

loyal friend.

Alter-egoed grip

upon the reins,

Steadfast in irons,

soldered to his feet.

Another hero’s heel

in wounded pain

Adjunct to failing trial,

none to meet.

Through storms and mountain glens

he wends his way,

Howling tempest smothers

heartfelt cry.

No joy on earth to wish

his heart to stay,

All hope gone,

anguished wish to die.

Softest breathing kelpie

heard his pleas,

Veiled as creature

tempting to his fate.

Brought errant knight

upon his knees

Submerged his soul,

became his life-long mate.

Whisper when you travel

in the fey lands.

In winds and breaths of air

each curse is heard,

Capricious creatures cover

more than Highlands,

Their charm to hear

each pent-up, heartfelt word.
