Elemental Daughter

She can tell, by turns, which way the world blows,

Lips to air, deep breaths, she tastes, she knows,

Lets the Kaver finger hair and loose clothes,

Mistral rushes through her channelled pores.

She nor’westers within stones long risen,

Empower’d by the buffets in between,

Dances there with deities all borne in that scene,

Feels the pressure, coriolis weaned.

She can rise from rivers, balance water,

Atomic weights, compound all they to her,

She’s the breath, the elemental daughter,

Born, released and free forever more.

Crazy sort of lady is the folk lore,

Witch upon the wind and on the moors,

Bathing in the floods of fire and aether,

Shower’d, she of air, she lives and pours

Flesh to life and soul to all around, rotating,

Twirling dervish, live unto the end,

Controls and calms, by turns, all elements about her,

Every waft of current is her friend.

Listen when she speaks through thunder’d prisms

Wrap yourself in bounty born within,

She curls around all feelings, depths and chasms,

Feel her dancing, daughter of the wind.

Legacy

It’s okay to steal the flame and run

From gods, a-hunting down audacious

Mercy given, gift of heaven,

It’s okay.

It’s alright to burn your fingers,

Singe a little, give a little, carry some

To others colder, further back from fire,

It’s alright.

It’s fine, I think, to bend the rules, apply

Some tender leniency, pretender to immutable,

Withstanding all is fair in love and war, they say,

It’s fine.

Who will be Prometheus, provoke with daring,

Chased by thunder, run the gauntlet,

Be the warrior who casts the dice where risk and life

Are prize, those lives unknown,

Emblematic titan, punished, ridiculed, symbolic,

Messianic martyr for the mass,

Where carried torch, ignited gift, though stolen,

Given too, the drive a greater need to give

Than to survive.

It’s okay, alright, it’s fine to steal

The spark bequeathed.

With forethought,

Feed and favour,

Fan,

Now keep it lit,

This legacy.

Tuning Senses

See the fire growing fom the ember barely there,

See the flames begin their dance again,

See them feeding oxygen, thirsting on the air,

See them leaping, fire renewed from pain.

See resplendent feathers, reflected in the dance,

See the plumage, see the wings, they spread,

See new life arising from the ashes, sparked of chance,

See the life exhumed, reborn from dead.

Hear the thrum of music, crackling from the pyre,

Hear the mystic voice of phoenix rise,

Hear the heat in visuals scorching from new fire,

Hear the silent message in her cries.

Feel impassioned purpose, senses tuned to glow,

Feel the power pulsing in its name,

Feel the fire of life coursing so we know,

Feel eternal light rebirthed from flame.

Wildfire

Hi Everyone,

The lovely Anne – Marie read one of my poems and asked me if I would like to feature it on here on her blog to which I replied of course I will! It’s a bit funny to me because I actually wrote this piece as an emotional vomit. Yay for expressing rage! Anyway I hope you like it.

Woman of the fire

She stands in the spotlight faint hearted
The saboteur waits in shadows
She sings of truth and beauty
She wants her silenced now
A voice gets reduced
The knife slides in
She stops all
Partners
None
Consumed
Hums alone
Inhales, exhales
Tests her feet in dance
Weds the heavenly choir
Raises the curtain to love
Remembers the assault of hate
Stays on hold patiently by the fire

“Some women are lost in the fire. Some women are built from it.”

Year In The Fire

The fire glimmers softly at this time of year,

Dulled with amber glow and vague reflection,

Crusted embers fused in furnaced carbon tears,

Mingled joyous sadness and dejection.

Beginnings of the ending of another passaged year,

Vault of mem’ries scanned in observation,

Stockings hung, as adults, anticipating all good cheer,

Pros and cons on mantelpiece selection.

Twas once upon the last day of the dying of each year

That I gazed into the flames of self-perception,

Feather to the balance of the heart, reviewed with fear,

Weighted gaze, self-analyzed confession.

Distanced through the haze in the glow of burnt-out year,

A summary of days passed in completion,

Banked one upon the other, at life calendar I peer,

In moments quiet peaceful introspection.

Some coals that I have gathered in the bunker of this year

I’ll store in baskets woven for retention,

Others I will burn to warm and I’ll hold dear

The treasures earthed from pits and recollection.

Pulsing

Sunlight fuels the fire that flames within me,

Darkness makes the daytime disappear,

Your light flares the glowing embers,

Burns me up whenever you are near.

Ashes in your presence turn to splendour,

Phoenix now reborn inside your love,

Flaming flight in day and now in starlight,

In orbit pulled and pulsing from above.

By The Fireside

Resist the urge to sleep your days away,

Though winter nights creep and steal the light.

Rather yet, snuggle in for tales by fireside,

Where flaming fantasies ignite.

Let leaping flares fuel imagination,

Transfixed by interlacing dance, coiling all around

Like lovers arms and legs entwined in burning glow,

Glazing eyes, as wonders therein abound.

Australia

All those posts on fire. This one most of all.

At world’s end,

In beauteous land,

Natural element

Takes a stand,

Creating chaos

Where it dares,

Ribbons of fire,

Crimson flares.

Destruction wrought,

Promethean power

Smothers nature

Day and hour,

Fighting battle’s

Raging roar,

Anguished citizens’

Hearts full sore.

In thoughts and prayers

We offer you

Fellowship

And wishes true,

That all may cease

So peace to reign

In beauty’s bounty

Abide again.

A Combustible Cold

iceberg melting

Cold as ice,

Heart frozen,

Arctic love’s betrayal.

Haunted by

All memories

Future tenderness must fail,

Till fire of passion

Burns.

Such flame!

Torch

To melt

Relieves the pain.

Drip by

Liquescent drip

Reveals,

Heart

Intact, complete,

So heals.

Ardour

May thaw

The frostiest heart,

With kiss of

Desire

Hurt departs.

Loving blaze,

Freely given,

Each flame,

Caresses,

Calls,

Combusts and claims.

Disclaimer!  (These photos are the copyright of others’ but unknown to me. Some are from national newspapers and others from private individuals. I will gladly allocate credit if claimed. The iceberg is free!)

With thanks to Mark’s Gallery for these pictures he posted, depicting bush fires currently rampant in Australia. He kindly obliged with photos of Fire after I had joked that I was going to write poems working my way through all the elements, having done some on Air and Water. These pictures, although of actual events, elicited in me an entirely different sort of response. My apologies if some of them are depressing! But some of them are loving and sensual. So a good balance I would say, eh?
