Safety Net Optional

I never ‘got’ the the circus,

Never got the fascination,

Big tops and clowns,

Never got why waving chairs at lions

Held a crowd.

I never got, the one time I went,

Why trapeze artistes would associate

With such,

The smells, the noise,

Those clowns.

Rather fly high,

Higher,

Touch the sky,

Leap into oblivion,

Risk the fall,

Dare to dive,

Feel the air rush past,

Reach for hands,

Sigh

Upon touch,

Safety net optional.

I got the trapeze.

Always will.

The Thrill

Bird in the sky

It’s a wide sky to fly out on your own here,

Kinda lonesome in a lovely sort of languid, lithesome way,

Like distance is no object on a clear day

And wings are happy just to flap away.

It’s a long time I’ve travelled on this journey,

Kinda ages since I roosted for a rest,

Like someone’s moved the landmarks without warning

But I’m happy doing what I do the best.

It’s the flight, you see, that really is the main part,

Kinda shooting breeze and riding currents fair,

Like flying without falling is my skill set

And nothing in this world can quite compare.

It’s the way I am, you know, I’m off the wire,

Kinda restless when I have to stay too still,

Like motion is my purpose and my meaning,

It’s a gift of wings and head for heights that thrill.

Heart Sigh

Someone caught the sigh and sent it homewards,

Breath returned to dream from whence it came,

Lent on wings one night for all eternal,

Breath refreshed in calling of one name.

‘Lover’, spoke the wind that carried heart sigh,

‘Whither thou go, angels feather first,

I will murmur softly, in their passing,

Reminding life, a sigh may mean rebirth.’

Super…….

If I could be a superhero,

I wouldn’t be a cat,

‘Cos cats climb trees

And purr a lot.

What can you do with that?

I wouldn’t be a wonder girl

Whose clothes can change

With just one twirl.

Handy though this flair could be,

It’s really not for me.

No, if I could choose a set of skills,

I know just what I’d opt for.

I’d be an eagle, flying high,

Like a feathered

Helicopter.

Transformation, quite complete,

I’d strut my stuff with wings and beak.

Feathered body, long of limb, razor talons for my protection,

I’d soar around from vantage point

With eyes sharp for detection.

I’d fly around this wondrous globe,

Bestowing golden feathers

With magic powers,

That, once they land,

Could cure and help all others.

The feathers would be cast so wide,

From here, around to all earth’s sides,

They’d tickle, grant gift of eagle eye,

Give hope to all that they too could fly

And know that soaring feeling.

In addition, as such a bird,

Large, you know, I suppose you’ve heard,

If I viewed, on earth, corruption,

Splat! I’d go, right in the eye

Of those bent on destruction.

So no, not cat nor twirling one,

I’d be super….. Eagle Woman,

With magic

In all messages,

Given to each human.

As for me, my gift to self,

Apart from eagle spying,

I’d experience

Such a buzz and thrill, from

Simply being flying.
