By Her Side

Carry forth on angel wings the needs I bring before you,

By light, your dynasty, to her provide,

Make feather-light her troubles and her sorrows,

I need you now to be close by her side.

In absence of my presence be her friend there,

Envelop her in love and bring her ease,

Cushion soft her blows, I need this from you,

Expectant faith I have so hear my pleas.

Shelter her from more of life’s hard taskings,

Enough is more than anyone can bear,

Be near her now and comfort, hug her closely,

Hold her gaze and let her see me there.

Light upon her, give her joy, I’m asking,

Tenderness where lack has been long gone,

Carry forth on angel wings the needs I bring before you,

Be her strength for me till she’s made strong.

May Music, Day 6 – Best Friend

I saw my best friend at a bus station on the way to college for enrolment. We got on the same bus, each eyeing the other as if we had met before. When we both headed for the same place I made a point of speaking to her. I was 17 then. She has been and continues to be, a wonderful friend. The song I most associate with her is ‘Tapestry’ by Carole King. She too was a product of older siblings’ taste in music. And Nancy could sing this one beautifully. So, when Twindaddy asked which song we associated with our best friend, this one seemed perfect because that’s kind of what our life has been. I like to think that we all know that friendship.

We met before we met, I’m sure

you’ve met her,

checkpoint on the road I call my living.

Encountered once, you will

not forget her,

our threads are woven closely, stitched by giving.

Like telepaths, we know when we are needed,

for friendship’s sake

we call and we are there.

One glimpse, one word was all it took

to feel it,

surprising meeting; starting with a stare.

We must have known that time

would be a stranger,

in early days when talk was fast and true.

Chosen paths mean

frequency no longer

but still our hearts are bound and so pursue

the knowing of the girl into the woman,

attributes

still held so very dear.

We met before we met, I’m sure

you’ve met her –

A friend of worth, inside, is always near.

Far Away

Do you feel my arms around you

                                                            far away?

Need for physical contact to remember

You’re human,

A woman.

Can you feel my tears mingling with yours

                                                            far away?

Sharing your sadness and grief.

For the pain, the loss

In your life.

Do you know you are loved though

                                                            far away?

Human to human

Woman to woman

One love in life.

Close your eyes and wrap arms,

                                                            far away,

Around self and know that it’s me,

Hugging you closely, gently

And loving the humanity of you.

Know you’re loved by others still

                                                            far away

Distance merely an illusion.

Your needs are my needs.

The needs of the world.

Hugs and love from far away.

For Rene, especially. A very special lady. Fighting through pain and adversity with courage and humour.

And also for all who need the hugs. We all do.

Happy New Year

We recollect the year,

Those loved and lost,

Decisions, right and wrong,

We count the cost

In growth and worth,

Another year in passing

In friendships, families,

All love amassing,

In trials, tribulations,

Fought and won,

All effort poured in faith,

This year near done.

Some hours now

To ponder life anew,

No promises, just

Hope and love renew.

Confidence in

Coming days ahead,

Constancy, belief,

No sense of dread.

A providential one,

A year filled with

New treasure,

I wish you this and more

In heartfelt measure.

Happy New Year, dear

Friends of WordPress,

May all your dreams come true,

Your lives be blest. x

Friendship

How have I offended you?

In thought or word or deed?

A moment’s madness, surely?

For to hurt is not my creed.

A tender heart to suffer

At wrongs I may impose,

Please take this humble offering,

Please take, from me, this rose.

A wayward word, a cruel remark,

From proud and sinful heart,

When once the arrow flees the bow

It finds its chosen mark.

This rose, with thorns, I offer you

For friendship is a sword

Double-edged with kindness

And, shame, the hurtful word.

Sharing

I’ve had a great two days doing nothing much. Sat on my bum for most of them and browsed this site. Checked out loads of blogs and I am in awe at the variety and heartfelt shares. I feel as if I have met people I would never otherwise have met just by being here.

Sometimes, my life is so busy with family and work I don’t take the time to ‘stop and stare’. The nothing much, as it turns out, has been pretty something. Thanks.x
