Elysian Fields

I’m rising and falling

and floating thru’ time

like a leaf on a breeze

in the mist

to Elysian Fields,

lush pastures to seize

while a song plays and

drifts from my lips.

I open my eyes

to view what’s in store and

gasp with delight

at the scene;

my Mother and Father,

all those long gone,

dancing

as if in a dream.

Their laughter like lilacs,

their faces in bloom,

roses red

on each cheek,

my face shines with joy

at each girl and boy

suspended in time

that we seek.

Air rushes by,

my heart gives a cry

as I’m torn from this world

full of wonder

clouds scud the night,

spirit in flight, in a whirlpool

 I’m dragged

back down under

to life on the earth

where worries await

and trials are the test

of my soul.

But eyes closed, cast within

I see fields again

and the faces of my

Elysian goal.

Foretaste Of Heaven

Seekers ask why and who, what and when

And where and, usually, how,

Must I live to ensure clear fulfilment

In life lived in the here and the now.

Hunters espy the target they seek

And plan how to meet the provisions,

Situate selves to best prey entrap

To achieve successful mission.

Quarry runs scared in every direction

Afraid to settle, except only themselves to hide,

Eyes darting always in fear of detection.

Life lived but with terror inside.

Learners believe that life is a book,

Encyclopaedic in nature

With facts to be learned by rote, kept in mind,

Often to prove their own stature.

Scientists experiment with wondrous array

Of elementary particles of land

Take notes and measure, test out their theories,

Dismiss faith often quite out of hand.

Lovers embrace that thing known as love,

Yearn for love gained and given.

Many there are who seek many ways

To experience a foretaste of heaven.

Chair Of Dreams

There’s a chair he sits

To meditate

And speculate on life.

It’s a comfy one;

Soft, well-sprung,

Eases all day’s strife.

He rests his head

On cushioned pad

And closes sleepy eyes,

Lets cares of day

Melt swift away,

Thoughts turn to inner sighs.

A restful time,

No work in mind,

Merely moments rest,

A winsome wait, to

Imaginative state, where

Dreams replace life’s best.

Time passing for some seconds

Seems a lifetime

In this way.

Clock ticks the moments

Idly by,

Dreams consummate; life delay.

Close mind to voices,

External noises,

Let angel flutter near

With wings of portent,

Soul be sent,

Eliminate all fear.

There’s a chair he sits,

It looks quite plain, but

Surrealism enhances,

In quietest throes

Of deep repose,

New hope from all dreamt chances.

There’s a chair he sits,

And with eyes closed, so

Angel unobserved,

Blesses hopes and dreams

For him

With gestures but no word.

Heavenly Light

Bring me no flowers,

Cry me no tears,

Think back, instead,

On all of those years

Of laughing and growing

And crying as well.

Remember those moments,

Your children to tell.

For life is a circle

That goes on and round,

Up here in my heaven,

Down there on your ground.

The illusion of death

Is all but just that.

People all thought the world

Was once flat.

The light permeates,

All atomic states,

I’m one with you still,

Your heaven awaits.

Fear not a devil,

Or some fiery hell,

God’s presence is luminous

And all hearts do swell.

I’m soaring as one in the presence of light,

The idea of hell is but unending night,

An absence of awe in glorious rays,

Interminable darkness for unending days.

Draw near the source, you know this, of course,

But a reminder is all to the good.

Bask in His wonder, proclaim it asunder,

For light to the soul is our food.
