‘Mankind Limited’

This book  ⇑⇑⇑ should be a movie. Somewhere in Hollywood right now there are actors waiting for their agents to deliver this story in script format to them. The makings of all action-packed adventure films is here. I can see the film in my mind’s eye.

But this one is different.

It’s not fast-paced for the thrill of it alone. It needs to be to get the message across. Mankind could be on the threshold of just such a future. Time is racing.

This one could be us.

Maybe a few years down the line yet, maybe already almost there in some similar format. Change a few details. Replace one group for another. Look behind the motives in politics and corporations. Stretch the reality just a little. Ask ourselves questions looking through the light of a different lens.

It feels like us, it acts like us, it may very well come to be.

It could be The Secret we all hold and may one day need.

The future may be closer than we think.

It only takes a small leap of imagination to take us from where we are now to Mankind Limited.

Scott Bailey is a writer I follow here on WordPress.

I downloaded his book a few weeks ago after reading an excerpt from it on his blog. It wasn’t until this week that I finally had the chance to read the book.  I like a good action-packed adventure as much as the next one but I liked, even more, what Scott communicated in the story.

I believe there is more to follow and I’ll be waiting. If we have time and I’m still aware…

Scott’s book is available through Amazon.

His blog can be found here.

Chartered

Lift up your voice, let the clear air carry

From the Sounds and the Firths out to the seas,

Enter in the inlets, in the estuaries,

Vocal now, no supplicants’ pleas.

These are not the voices of the woaded tribes,

But the born to be, destined to be free,

Lift up your voice, let the message ride,

Polemicists, apologists we.

These are the voices of the meek grown bold,

Emboldened by the truth when it is known,

History rewritten, in the present told,

Seeds of justice long ago sown.

Vanquish defensive, the cringe once bred

By the words of the woeful, books and news,

Lift up your voices, elevate your head,

Sing songs of freedom born of battled blues.

Carry the banner of the free, unveiled,

Perish the thought of lowly born,

People of the future, never more assailed,

Abandon ashes, sackcloth ever worn.

Shrug off the fear, designating state,

Antonym to action, thus enslaved,

Write now with purpose on a wipe-cleaned slate,

Capitalised, italicised, writ brave.

Be the free citizens where’er you live,

Terminology none may revoke,

Pass on egality as the gift you give,

Charter of mankind now quote, invoke.

Legacy

It’s okay to steal the flame and run

From gods, a-hunting down audacious

Mercy given, gift of heaven,

It’s okay.

It’s alright to burn your fingers,

Singe a little, give a little, carry some

To others colder, further back from fire,

It’s alright.

It’s fine, I think, to bend the rules, apply

Some tender leniency, pretender to immutable,

Withstanding all is fair in love and war, they say,

It’s fine.

Who will be Prometheus, provoke with daring,

Chased by thunder, run the gauntlet,

Be the warrior who casts the dice where risk and life

Are prize, those lives unknown,

Emblematic titan, punished, ridiculed, symbolic,

Messianic martyr for the mass,

Where carried torch, ignited gift, though stolen,

Given too, the drive a greater need to give

Than to survive.

It’s okay, alright, it’s fine to steal

The spark bequeathed.

With forethought,

Feed and favour,

Fan,

Now keep it lit,

This legacy.

Ragnarok

No twilight here

of gods

in surrender

but battles raging,

ending

longest winter.

No hope apparent,

wounded,

raging thirst,

godless, manless

world

consumed by lusts.

No skies above,

no earth

or hell below,

emptiness,

forgetfulness,

old ways forego.

No end in sight,

each dawn a new creation,

old worlds

evolve and die,

rebirth nations.

No fear, despair

in prophecies

foretold.

Emerge, arise,

fire purified,

warmth from bitter cold.

Silence Now

Disclaimer!  (These photos are the copyright of others’ but unknown to me. Some are from national newspapers and others from private individuals. I will gladly allocate credit if claimed.)

With thanks to Mark’s Gallery for these pictures he posted, depicting bush fires currently rampant in Australia. He kindly obliged with photos of Fire after I had joked that I was going to write poems working my way through all the elements, having done some on Air and Water. These pictures, although of actual events, elicited in me an entirely different sort of response. My apologies if some of them are depressing! But some of them are loving and sensual. So a good balance I would say, eh?

Fire 1

Drift now

In hazy cloud of ash.

It’s ended

And all of life is past.

Buildings

Commemorate for all,

Existence once,

Before all mankind’s fall.

22 (1)

Sleep now,

All music

Long since

Gone.

Silence.

No singer

Left

For song.

Fire 8

Harken

To the silence.

Now

It speaks.

History

Repeated,

All hope

Leaks.

14

Hush now,

Heaven

Weeps

For wrong,

Carrying

All souls

Where

We belong.

21

Truth

Plundered,

Distorted,

All hope burned.

Mankind

Broken,

Nothing ever

Learned.

In Glory They Shine

Undaunted he rides on creature with wings

Head thrown back, from true heart he sings,

Banner aloft, a symbol of power,

Challenging the beast, for this is his hour –

Misery and heartache he brings.

Struggle ensues in stars’ endless night,

Clashes almighty! A furious fight!

Mounts of giant standing keep to their pace,

Enabling each rider to take part in this race –

This marathon for forthcoming light.

Brilliance looks on, each heavenly body,

Shimmering with excitement, for these two embody

The battle that wages out here in this ‘hood,

Death is success for the bad or the good –

Mercy shown for nobody.

Years pass in combat, blood flows from the sky,

Drips to the earth and burns you and I,

Venom from one with viperish tongue,

Hooded and ready he sprung –

To the heart of hero forbye.

Evil was winning and good hung from his steed,

Victim too worthy but ready to bleed,

He looked all around in desperate plea

To stars in the galaxies, that’s you and that’s me,

And they responded, paid heed.

Mustering all mighty strength they maintained,

They breathed forth their power, in good’s name proclaimed,

Light will battle with darkness, it’s true,

One is enough, but many is better than few

So goodness may be blessed and ordained.

It’s true what I tell, it’s the conflict of old,

Centuries written, millennia told,

Where two hearts of one man, divided by cause,

Wreak havoc and vengeance with weapons and claws

And declare to the world they are bold.

But bolder than man with blackest of heart

Is the radiance of heavens that shone from the start

Seeking to illumine where darkness prevails,

Appease understanding with light-infused tales

Of glories one day to impart.
