Lucy’s Light

Johnny and I have been working together again on a new song. I hope you like it. Merry Christmas everyone!

I’ll shatter the dark for you,

Paint your world with colours, you’ll see

Saffron, crimsons and blues,

Only my light can imbue

Treasures I hold for you,

Galaxies far, we’ll go seeking new stars,

I’ll open it all up to you.

Shimmer on oceans and shores,

All of this and much more,

Vision and sight, I will give you my life,

With me all this is in store.

Rainbows I’ll paint for your taste,

No light of mine will I waste,

Travel with me, hold on tight,

We’ll journey out into space.

Secrets shared for your grace,

Hold on while I lead the chase,

Nothing comes closer than Lucy at light speed,

I’ll keep you close by in my race,

Moons I’ll bathe with my dust,

All of this when you trust,

Radiant light, I will give you my sight,

If you’ll give me shelter and love.

Comfort when we’re side by side,

No need for our love to hide,

We’ll be united if you’re quite decided,

Night and day, we’ll abide.

I’ll shatter the dark for you,

Paint your world sky blue,

Give my light for the sights of your life,

With me you’ll see that it’s true,

Secrets we hide in space

Revealed when we’re in the race,

Hold on tight for the ride of your life,

Night and day now embraced.

Lucy is here by your side,

Come quickly, you must decide,

Look for me near, I am always right here,

Get ready for the ride of your life.

The Peacemaker

I’ve been working again with Johnny on his inspiring music. I hope you enjoy this recent collaboration, contemplating the subject of peace, with beautiful pictures assembled by Johnny and his wife, Lisa.

Leave me, you must not leave me,

Face away from me I cannot bear,

With me, you are my sanctuary,

Stay, I beg, this my fervent prayer.

Light dimmed, only darkness waits,

Clouds descend, I can’t go on,

Come to me, you know I need you,

Together, we can do no wrong.

Desert me, please don’t turn away,

When you’re gone there’s nothing for me here,

Far from you, my world falls apart,

Lay with me, I must have you near.

Light dimmed, only darkness waits,

Clouds descend, I can’t go on,

Come to me, you know I need you,

Together, we can do no wrong.

Leave me, you cannot leave me,

Turn your face to me and show you care,

I feel you deep inside of me,

Stay awhile with me so I can share.

Light dimmed, only darkness waits,

Clouds descend, I can’t go on,

Come to me, you know I need you,

Together, we can do no wrong,

Come to me, you know I need you,

Together, you know we can do no wrong.

Stay with me, you must not leave me,

Stay with me, you must not leave me,

Stay with me, you must not leave me.

Elegy

It’s beginning to look like I’ve given up writing poetry but, hey, what are lyrics but poetry set to music?

That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it as I’m thoroughly enjoying this foray into writing and singing the lyrics to accompany Johnny’s fabulous music.

He and his lovely wife, Lisa, both put an incredible amount of work into compiling the video.

Where you go I’ll never know,

it’s a dream,

cast alone as a stone

into a stream.

I am void when you’re gone,

just a shell of myself,

you leave me there,

I don’t know where,

when or if I’ll be reborn,

recover soon, without you, my other self.

Why you leave I can’t conceive,

where you go I’ll never know,

into night you have flown

while I lie here all alone,

tie me to you,

take me on the voyage,

where you fly

as I lay here to die,

without you.

Where you go I’ll never know,

it’s a dream,

left alone while you roam

in the realms of a world

that is your home

from waking days,

each night I pray

you will return to me,

I’ll never see what you’ve seen

as I lie here lost to dreams,

beyond the night you have flown

as I die a death alone,

tie me to you,

take me on your voyage,

into night, where you fly,

do not leave me here to die

bring life back to my dreams,

take me with you when you go,

where you fly,

I cannot bear to die alone

on my own, just a shell of myself.

You leave me bare,

I don’t know where, when or if

I’ll be reborn, recover soon,

my death to self.

The Illusion

Below are the words I wrote to one of Johnny’s amazing tunes. It’s called, ‘The Illusion’.

It made me think of the circus (which I hate). And politics. And we, the people. This world of ours.

I hope you enjoy the results of this particular collaboration.

Some people may be offended by some of the images. What can I say? I’m offended by them too.

Here is the circus, here is the street,

Ringmaster has found the beat,

Try to keep up with his song,

Try to march in time along.

This is the game we all play,

Carnival is now the way,

Jugglers, clowns perform, we pay,

Sideshow stalls have won the day.

See, look, the Big Top, there go the lions,

Whipped to submit, they stride in time,

Prancing ponies do their thing,

All well-trained for circus ring.

Fire-eaters and trapeze acts,

Contortionists, acrobats,

Bearded lady, strongman too,

A man who’ll throw sharp knives at you.

Elephants and dancing bears,

Chained and trained with treats and chairs,

Barking seals we’ll photograph,

Voyeuristic, look and laugh.

This is the game we all play,

Carnival is now the way,

Jugglers, clowns perform, we pay,

Sideshow stalls have won the day.

Freaks, a frenzy, humankind,

All been hired, so we don’t mind,

Reassured by loud applause,

Menagerie all minus claws.

Unicycle, wheel on fire,

No safety net below the wire,

Seats aplenty, catch the thrills,

Captive held, donated will.

This is the game we all play,

Carnival is now the way,

Jugglers, clowns perform, we pay,

Sideshow stalls have won the day.

Crocodiles that cry and smile,

Hoops and loops, a queued turnstile,

Welcome mat once bona fide

Shit and sawdust strewn inside

Red coattails and top hat guy,

Prices tickets, would he lie,

Roll on up for daring acts,

Roles by rote, learned down pat.

Calliope, glockenspiel,

Beating drums, can this be real,

Mesmerised by costumes grand,

Performances all out of hand.

Extravaganza, three-ring whip,

Drugged as mugs, all on this trip,

Flashing lights and strobes that blind,

Custard pies but we don’t mind.

This is the game we all play,

Carnival is now the way,

Jugglers, clowns perform, we pay,

Sideshow stalls have won the day.

Disassembled, faded grass,

Circus moved, out on our arse,

Try to keep up with his song,

Ringmaster can do no wrong.

This is the game we all play,

Carnival is now the way,

Jugglers, clowns perform, we pay,

Sideshow stalls have won the day.

Hollow – Musical Muses

Apparently not having much time for blogging doesn’t include not making time to listen to music and letting the words flow. Johnny Ojanpera’s wonderful tunes have been played on repeat for the last few weeks while I’ve whittled away at school work and let the muse take over to say/sing whatever she wants. I hope you enjoy this collaboration across the miles. It sure beats just doing the school stuff on its own. 🙂 Now back to that forward planning. :/

Take me out of the hollow,

Raise me up from the well,

One hand to push on the lever,

Pull me from the tunnel bound for hell,

Sink-hole so deep I am drowning,

Feet in molasses, I am stuck,

Drop me a dime if you’re willing,

Up to my neck in bad luck.

Hollow has the test of me,

You could save the best of me,

Save me from the tunnel bound for hell.

Help me out of the hollow,

Dog days are burning me up,

Feet dried in concrete, I’m shoehorned,

Wedged in, grooved to my rut,

Find me down in the hollow,

Birth me new from the womb,

Save me from sinking in sorrow,

Get me out of this tomb.

Hollow has the test of me,

You could save the best of me,

Save me from the tunnel bound for hell.

Light seen above me, one candle,

Shadowed the face, but I can tell

Who turns the screw, who the handle,

Who sets me free from myself,

Found me and filled me, I was begging,

Hollow had had the test of me,

One hand was all that I needed,

Was empty, you filled, you set me free,

Took me out of the hollow,

Raised me up from that well,

One hand to push on the lever,

You pulled me from the road paved to hell.

Hollow had the test of me,

You saved the best of me,

Saved me from the tunnel bound for hell.

Harlequin Lost

Right, I’m stepping outside of my comfort zone here so behave yourselves, you hear.

A few weeks ago I wrote a poem/song entitled ‘Harlequin‘ that Johnny Ojanpera read and liked. As it happens, he had just written a piece of music entitled ‘Lost’ and thought it would make a good background to a spoken piece.

Well, my weans, being who they are, said I sounded soft reading to music. I took that to mean like Telly Savalas talking along to the picture song. You know the one I mean and I can’t be jacksied looking it up. So many insertions to make here as it is.

So I’ve ended up doing a sung version of my poem adapted to fit the length of the wonderful music Johnny so generously provided, just one of the many beautiful pieces he has composed.

If you think you may have preferred the Telly Savalas version after hearing this, tough! Be thankful you didn’t get the video version. 😛
